Bréhat: A Hidden Paradise in Brittany

Bréhat island: just a two-hour sail away.

An island accessible by sailboat or motorboat

The Bréhat archipelago is located about 15 nautical miles from the deep-water port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux. Known for its beauty and seasonal agapanthus blooms, this Breton island is a true haven of peace.

With a rental motorboat, it takes between 35 minutes and one hour to reach Bréhat.

With the right wind, tide, and a sailboat, plan for two to three hours to arrive at La Chambre, the southeast mooring port of the island. To reach La Corderie by way of the Paon lighthouse or through the Ferlat passage, allow for an additional hour.

They told you it was a Breton paradise, didn’t they? You won’t be disappointed. In Bréhat, the landscapes transform hour by hour, in sync with the tides and weather.

Discovery and inspiration

The unique features of the sailing area.

For sailors, the area is known for its strong tidal ranges, currents, and pink-hued rocks. These features make sailing in Bréhat both spectacular and unforgettable.

To reach it safely and with peace of mind, there are two options:

  • The first: be an expert in paper charts, dividers, and the bearing compass.
  • The second (which does not exclude the first): equip yourself with an online charting system like Navionics. This extra measure ensures you can navigate the archipelago safely.

For added convenience, Loc Voile Armor can rent you a Sailproof navigation tablet equipped with Navionics. Sailproof tablets are rugged, anti-glare, and waterproof: perfect for safe navigation.

The good advice: To go to or return from Bréhat: you won’t always do what you want. Freedom at sea is a very relative concept. When sailing, with a medium or high tidal coefficient, you’ll always need to go with the current. Sailing against the current will be exhausting, especially with a wind opposing the tide. ‘Wind against tide: everything goes wrong!’

The most beautiful anchorages of Bréhat.

  • La Chambre: Nine green visitor buoys are available at the entrance of La Corderie. The La Chambre slipway provides easy access to the village. It’s a 15-minute walk to restock at the bakery, the bar, the Carrefour Market, or to enjoy an ice cream on the island. For boats over 10 meters, the only option is to anchor in front of La Corderie and Guerzido Beach. Be cautious of strong currents in the area and avoid blocking the mooring of the Bréhat passenger boats.

  • La Corderie: Six green visitor buoys are available for boats under 10 meters at the entrance to La Corderie. This anchorage allows you to enjoy stunning sunsets. Please note that depending on the tidal coefficient, some of these buoys may run aground. Check your draft. You can reach either the north or south island by dinghy.

Si vous prévoyez de vous rendre dans un des ports de l’Archipel de Bréhat : consultez le site de la mairie pour les informations et les tarifs des bouées visiteurs.  La mairie interdit de mettre l’ancre dans un des ports de l’île.
